What We’re Looking For

  • Sharp, clear movements

  • Strong energy and commitment

  • Ability to pick up choreography and apply corrections

  • Performance quality and personality

  • Confidence, not perfection

You do not need to be perfect. We are looking for effort, focus, and storytelling through movement. Practice this choreography ahead of time so you can dance with confidence at auditions.

Audition Sides (Scripts)

Please review the acting sides before auditions.

You do not need to memorize these sides.
However, performers should be familiar with the text, characters, and tone.

At auditions, you may be asked to:

  • Read from the page

  • Try different characters

  • Take direction and make adjustments

Singing Auditions

For auditions, we ask performers to sing with a piano or instrumental backing track.

Song Length

  • Performers must prepare a 24–32 bar cut of their song

  • This is usually about 45–60 seconds of music (75 seconds max is acceptable)

  • The cut should show your voice clearly and comfortably

You do not need to sing the entire song.

Song Requirements

  • Musical theatre songs only

  • No selections from Matilda

  • Songs must be age-appropriate in lyrics and content

  • Singing must be performed with a piano or instrumental backing track

    • (No acapella or karaoke-style tracks please)

What is a Backing Track?

A backing track is a piano or instrumental accompaniment that supports the singer without another voice

We ask for piano or instrumental tracks because they allow the audition panel to clearly hear:

  • The performer’s voice

  • Pitch and musicality

  • Expression and storytelling

Finding a Backing Track

Backing tracks can often be found on Youtube by searching:

  • “[song title] piano accompaniment”

  • [song title] instrumental track”

Choose a track that:

  • Does not include background vocals

  • Matches your preferred tempo

  • Allows your voice to stand out clearly

If you are unsure whether a track is appropriate, you are welcome to reach out for guidance.

Submitting Your Track

When completing the audition form (after booking an audition), families may:

  • Submit a pre-cut backing track, or

  • Provide start and stop times for the selected selection

Our team will handle playback during auditions

Final Reminder

Auditions are an opportunity to share your work and preparation.

Choose a song that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to perform!
